Hi Nick,Rough sketches attached of the approach we discussed yesterday.Note: There are 3 pages in the attached and the last one will be the one you want to look at.If you could get me some feedback on approach within the next day or so it would be good.Thanks.RegardsDan Plummer AILAPLUMMER & SMITHlandscape architecture / art / designSuite 30, 2 Queen StreetPO Box 204Murwillumbah NSW 2484
I like the concept of three levels of viewing platform each angled to focus the view in a different quadrant. I would like to see the step down to a seating alcove (like phase 1) repeated in phase 2 as I feel current visitor numbers justify this. I also hope that our grant application / project can pitch for phase 1 and 2. Phase 3 could be future planning. I think that paving below the seating is necessary to prevent erosion.

ReplyDeleteTo answer a couple of questions/ ideas raised:
Regarding the timber and paving- this change in material is a result of the first platform being on ground. This is currently the eroded area around the existing seat. By paving this area we make use of the existing ground profile without requiring extra digging and without the requirement to regenerate and stabilise exposed ground.
Regarding the seating alcove below the second platform- this may be something that is encapsulated in a terrace at the bottom of the deck (i.e. a step a the deck edge) in order to limit the drop at the eastern edge of the deck. We will not really know whether this is required until closer to construction due to the lack of any survey material.
Hope this helps. I will clean up the plan and provide a little more information for costing purposes in the coming days.
Thanks
Dan
